The lack of any news over the last two years may be of a concern that the company was not operating any longer. I was offered the opportunity in 2016 to run the Guide Training Programme for BirdLife South Africa. The opportunity to work for an NGO and to be able to try and train some local guides was a new challenge and one that I couldn’t turn down. Over the past two years 22 students attended training courses arranged by BirdLife that were corporate sponsored and we managed to get 12 of them to qualify as level 1 guides.
The training was quite a challenge considering that the background of these individuals meant that there was minimal prior experience with the natural world and the level of basic education was maybe not as high as what my previous students had. However the challenge was accepted and I felt extremely proud to have been able to assist these individuals to improve their qualifications and to enter into the world of guiding.
Sadly all good things come to an en end and with donor funding lacking the programme cam to an end in 2018. The focus now has shifted once again to promoting Antares and as of 2019 we will be offering a longer and much improved product from before. More details on the course will be published shortly.
