July 2015 week 5

Great start to a Monday morning as we went on a game drive with Canadian guests, and straight away we found 3 young black backed jackals running around playing with each other for about 10 minutes!
Great sighting as we normally only see them for about 10 seconds!
Then we spent the next few days studying botany and identifying trees.
It’s amazing what you can use from all different kind of trees!
But the best part of the week was our 2 night sleep out.

First time for all of us, so it was nerve wrecking but exciting. We all had to take it in turns to stay up and keep look out for animals. Luckily nobody fell asleep on duty!

The next day we went for a walk to see if we could find any tracks… during the night we had visitors from giraffes and zebras, as well as listening to the lions call and hyenas calling! We also went on a night drive and a large spotted genet ran in front of the vehicle which was our second best sighting of the week!

On Friday we all took it in turns to drive the game viewer for the first time which was fun…. We’re all still alive and nobody crashed!
